“I am showing the world in my head. Images that are born there, but distorted by wrong associations. Villains and happy freaks that rule undisturbed, torment and worry their creator. I let my imagination run free. I use my paintings to recreate my fears that nothing is stable or real. Beauty is a mask of ugliness. Monstrosity reigns. I represent it in different forms: the ugly crowd, the ugly loner, the ugly object. I find it everywhere. The creatures have lost their purity.

My work is not deliberately pessimistic. If a man is to understand that one thing is good, he usually compares it with something bad. If there's nothing bad, how can we spot the good? That's why my works depict the negative side more; this is my path to the positive one. I try to express the ugliness in a picture that is acceptable to the eyes. I twist together the concepts of beauty and ugliness and in my world they become synonyms.

My world is the color of black that has swallowed all others.” 

These are the words with which Boris Pramatarov introduces us to his imaginary world. We're happy to present our interview with the talented bulgarian artist, the first of a series of collaborative video productions  together with Under The Line featuring the photography of our friend Mihail Novakov.
